Options Watchlist Guide

العربية

Learn how to save contracts, monitor quotes and expiry, understand limits and freshness, and remove stale ideas from the options watchlist.

A stock can have many similar option contracts. The watchlist saves the exact type, strike and expiry so you can return to your research without searching again. Use it to compare saved contracts and reassess them as quotes and time remaining change.

Core principle: Inspect the source fields and timestamp before interpreting any label or score.

A saved contract is a bookmark, not a position or alert guarantee. Revalidate the exact contract and quote each time you return.

Use the page controls and filters

Search and saved status

Use underlying, type, DTE and saved-status filters. Check them before concluding that contracts were deleted from an empty list.

Sort contracts

Click sortable headings such as price, change or volume to change order. Comparable expiries and liquidity make comparisons more useful.

Previous close, change and maximum

Previous close gives change context; Max and Max % show the page's maximum-price measures. These are market data, not your profit: the page does not hold a brokerage entry price.

Chart and removal

Open a contract chart to inspect movement and use the save control to change monitoring. Removing a contract affects this list, not a brokerage position or broker alert.

Fields and concepts

Contract identity

Underlying, expiry, strike, and call/put type identify the saved instrument.

Quote and spread

Show the latest available market context and whether the contract remains practical to monitor.

Expiry status

Highlights contracts approaching expiration or already expired.

Calls and puts totals

Summarize the current saved set without implying directional exposure.

Refresh state

Shows whether the visible quote set is current or still updating.

Plan limit

Defines how many contracts may be saved for the user's current plan.

Review workflow

  1. Add a contract from a supported options page and confirm the exact identity shown in the watchlist.
  2. Group the list by a clear research purpose rather than saving many near-duplicate contracts.
  3. Review quote freshness, spread, expiry, and underlying price each time the page opens.
  4. Open the chain or contract chart when a value changes materially.
  5. Remove expired, illiquid, duplicate, or no-longer-relevant contracts.

Useful supporting context

  • A small, intentional list with exact contracts and defined review reasons.
  • Current quotes and contracts that remain listed and liquid.
  • Regular cleanup as expiries and research questions change.
  • Cross-checks from the chain, flow, momentum, or chart page.

Cautions

  • Assuming the displayed last price is executable.
  • Keeping expired or nearly expired contracts without reviewing decay.
  • Confusing a saved contract with an open brokerage position.
  • Using the watchlist as a substitute for risk or alert management.

Risk and limitations

Watchlist data can be delayed, stale, or unavailable, and saving a contract does not monitor a brokerage account or execute an order. Recheck all market data at the decision point.

Review saved contracts as expiring instruments

An options watchlist needs more maintenance than a stock list because time decay, expiry, liquidity, and contract identity keep changing.

  1. Save the exact OCC-style contract from Chain, Flow, Momentum, or Confluence rather than relying on the underlying ticker alone.
  2. Compare current price with the saved reference, then read expiry and DTE before interpreting percentage change.
  3. Check bid/ask spread, volume, OI, and update time because an unchanged last trade can hide a stale or untradable quote.
  4. Open the contract and underlying charts to decide whether the option move came from price, volatility, or time decay.
  5. Remove expired or invalidated ideas promptly; keeping history is useful only when it is clearly separated from actionable contracts.

Page components explained

Saved-contract summary

Review how many calls, puts and near-expiry contracts you have saved. These counts describe your list, not your broker positions or account risk.

Filter saved contracts

Narrow the list by stock, contract type, days to expiry or saved status. Check expiry before using a past contract as a current candidate.

Review a saved contract

Match strike and expiry, then compare the latest available quote with activity and score. Saving a contract is a bookmark, not an order or a record of owning it.

Automatic refresh

Refresh checks for new readings. It does not make an old source current. Check the reading's timestamp and any warning before using it.

Language

Use the flag to switch the interface language. Check the currency shown on subscription and payment pages after changing language; trading symbols keep their original spelling.

Light and dark mode

Choose the appearance that makes text and chart details comfortable to read. Changing the theme affects the display, not the underlying data or signals.

Page layout

Use this control to change the available page layout. It changes how much space the interface uses, not the meaning of the displayed values.

Fullscreen

In the signed-in app, expand the site to gain more room for charts and tables. Use the control again or Escape to leave browser fullscreen.

Notification bell

Review recent notifications and their timestamps here. The badge counts unread notifications; it is not a count of unreviewed trading opportunities. Delivery channels and rules are managed in alert subscriptions.

Account menu

Open account settings, subscription details and other personal links here. Use sign out when you finish on a shared device.

Site navigation

Choose a tool from the menu: watchlists organize stocks, screeners narrow them down, and radars find particular patterns. On a small screen, use the menu button to reveal the links.
